What is an Orientation Leader?

  • Recognizable and friendly face on campus
  • Welcomes new students and families to campus
  • Acts as a mentor and role model to incoming students
  • Assists in the transitional process for new Bobcats
  • Knowledgeable about Texas State and university resources
  • Possesses a strong work ethic
  • Epitomizes the values of Texas State
  • Exudes a strong love and passion for the University
  • Works with a dedicated, diverse group of their peers

OLs develop valuable resume skills such as:

  • Gain leadership experience
  • Manage group activities and settings
  • Improve public speaking and presentation skills
  • Provide exceptional customer service experience
  • Lead thousands of new students in their transition to Texas State
  • Learn crisis and conflict management skills
  • Handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Develop excellent time management
  • Work with a variety of diverse departments across campus

To apply for an Orientation Leader position, you must:

  • Have a minimum 2.5 Texas State G.P.A.
  • Live in a residence hall during summer 2017 Orientation
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Not be enrolled in summer 2017 courses
  • Completed 2 long semesters by summer 2017
  • Be a full time student fall 2016, spring 2017 and fall 2017
  • Be able to lift boxes up to 30 pounds and move materials around campus
