Position Details:

  • Positively represent the student experience at TXST
  • Maintain a professional demeanor: take initiative, follow instructions, remain flexible, be punctual
  • Lead student group discussions pertaining to TXST policies, resources, and environment
  • Give brief campus tours and highlight aspects of campus life
  • Meet, greet, and mingle with new students, parents, and guests
  • Provide assistance with course availability and registration
  • Assemble program materials and assist with the check-in process
  • Draw from personal experience to answer questions that pertain to TXST with a positive attitude and demeanor
  • Work extended hours in the summer heat during each program, including early mornings and late nights
  • Assist with the required overnight residence hall experience
  • Multitask: lift, carry and sort boxes and paper, while guiding participants and assisting fellow team members with assigned duties
  • Answer repetitive questions and maintain a positive attitude and demeanor

To apply for an OL position, you must:

  • Have attended Texas State for two long semesters (fall and spring) before summer 2018 begins
  • Have a 2.5 Texas State GPA at point of hire and maintain it throughout the year
  • Be in good academic standing with Texas State
  • Be enrolled as a Texas State student for the spring 2018 and fall 2018 semesters
  • Be able to lift boxes up to 30 pounds and move materials around campus
  • Be able to give presentations to small and large groups
  • Live in a residence hall during summer NSO sessions
  • Not be enrolled in summer courses
  • Be able to attend mandatory training in spring 2018 semester from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Fridays
  • Be available to attend mandatory summer training and all assigned NSO programs from May 22 - July 27, 2018
  • Other duties as assigned

OLs develop valuable resume skills such as:

  • Gain leadership experience
  • Manage group activities and settings
  • Improve public speaking and presentation skills
  • Provide exceptional customer service experience
  • Lead thousands of new students in their transition to Texas State
  • Learn crisis and conflict management skills
  • Handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Develop excellent time management
  • Work with a variety of diverse departments across campus

Benefits:

  • $8.25 per hour, with eligibility for overtime in the summer
  • Housing for the summer months, while NSO is in session
  • Meals provided for one-day sessions
  • A supplementary meal plan, which includes Meal Trades and Dining Dollars
  • Access to the Student Recreation Center
