Common Experience

Common Experience is the yearlong series of events, lectures and course work that bonds the campus community. It cultivates a common intellectual conversation with events and activities tied to a subject people care about, like sustainability, civic responsibility or mental health and illness. Entering freshmen explore the year’s Common Experience theme in US 1100, University Seminar, with a faculty mentor.

Common Experience events include films, exhibits, debates, concerts and artistic performances. Speakers come from around the world and have included actor Edward James Olmos, director Spike Lee, poet Maya Angelou, novelist Isabel Allende, No Impact Man author Colin Beavan, environmental activist Erin Brockovich and journalist Soledad O'Brien.
