What advice do you have for future students?
Finding the right school is all about finding the right fit. I would encourage students to visit as many campuses as possible. And don’t be afraid to ask questions! Get as much information as you can about the programs, the campus and the community. Then, make the decision that’s right for you.
Once you have found your school, take advantage of all that college has to offer. The more you put into anything, the more you get out of it. Get involved in the campus community, look at each class as an opportunity to learn something new, and use the resources available to help you succeed.
What are three things you love about Texas State?
First, the campus. I fell in love with Texas State on my first visit to the campus because of how beautiful it is. The hills, the river, the towering pecan and cypress trees, and the architecture of the older buildings all combine to create a campus without equal.
Second, the community. I came to San Marcos for the university, but I stayed here because of the town. San Marcos is big enough to have all of the amenities of a large city, and small enough to feel like home.
Finally, the people. We Texans have a reputation for our hospitality and nowhere is that more evident than at Texas State. From the president to the custodial staff, from the deans to the professors and the lab assistants, everyone is warm, welcoming and always ready to greet you with a smile or to lend a hand to a student or colleague in need.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I am an unabashed cinephile! I love movies and everything about film and filmmaking. As part of my English minor hours, I took two literature classes that focused on film and how it tells stories. They gave me a great excuse to finally watch some classic films that I had never gotten around to watching. I also love to read and to fish, but I never seem to have enough time for either.
