Special Admission Requirements

McCoy College of Business Administration

Consideration for admission to McCoy College undergraduate programs is based on specific admission criteria and is conducted as a rolling admission process.

Freshman (Applicants with less than 30 semester hours)

Automatic
Applicants are automatically accepted into the McCoy College if they are granted an assured admission to Texas State and ONE of the following is met:

  • SAT composite score is 1200 or greater*
  • ACT composite score is 27 or greater*
  • Applicant is ranked in the top 25% of their high school graduating class

Competitive:
Applicants who do not meet automatic admission requirements will be considered through a competitive review process. The review process is based upon the following:

  • High school academic record
  • Standardized test score (SAT or ACT)*
  • Combination of the two.

* SAT composite score is computed using Mathematics and Critical Reading sections as reported by SAT; ACT composite score is average of English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science as reported by ACT.

Department of Communication Design

To pursue a communication design major, you must meet the admission requirements of the Department of Communication Design and receive assured admission to Texas State.


Freshman (Applicants with less than 30 semester hours)

Automatic

  • Receive assured admission to Texas State
  • Select a first choice major of Communication Design
  • Achieve one of the following:
    • SAT score of 1200 or higher*
    • ACT score of 27 or higher*  
    • Ranking in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class

Competitive
Other applicants who have received admission to Texas State will be considered for any remaining openings through a competitive review process.

  • High school academic record
  • Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)*
  • Combination of the two
