Freshman Admission

Admittance to Texas State University is based primarily on the applicants’ overall academic record, and to a lesser extent, their involvement outside the classroom. Admission requirements for freshman and freshman-transfer candidates are outlined below. Please note: An application fee is required unless the student qualifies for an exemption.

How to Apply

Go to www.applytexas.org. Here you will find detailed instructions for completing The ApplyTexas application and submitting it electronically. A paper application may also be obtained by visiting your guidance counselor.

Freshman Admission Requirements

• ApplyTexas application (Parts I and II)
• One essay from topics A, B or C
• Official high school transcript including class rank or statement that school does not rank
• The State of Texas Recommended or Distinguished Graduation Program or equivalent;
  for details consult your guidance counselor
• SAT or ACT scores with writing section included* (test codes: ACT 4178, SAT 6667)
• A non-refundable application fee of $60 (check, money order or credit card) or exemption form

* The SAT/ACT writing section is required but will not factor into admission decision.

Freshman-Transfer Admission Requirements
(1-29 transferable semester hours)

• Fulfill all freshman requirements listed above
• Official college transcript(s) from all colleges attended
• Must have a 2.0 GPA or higher in all previous college work
