Freshman Admission Requirements

Your overall academic record is the most important part of your application, but we'll also look at what you've done outside the classroom. If you plan to attend Texas State the semester after high school graduation (not including summer sessions), you should fill out the freshman application no matter how many dual credit or transferable college credits you've earned.

State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy

Per state law, TEC 51.803-51.809, Uniform Admissions Policy (UAP) requires applicants to four-year public universities to meet college readiness standards through completion of a high school graduation program or equivalent or through SAT or ACT score benchmarks. If you attend an out-of-state high school, you are exempt from the UAP.

Non-Ranking Schools and Programs

Non-Ranking Public and Private High Schools

Applicants from non-ranking public or private schools must meet the freshman requirements outlined above and will be considered for admission based on an individual review by the Office of Undergraduate Admission. This review will take into account ACT or SAT scores, curriculum and grades, admission essay, employment and service to community. For admission purposes, a class rank will be assigned by Texas State in accordance with SB 1543 referenced above.

For more information regarding the admission process for applicants from non-ranking schools or other educational programs, contact your freshman admission counselor.

Nontraditional Secondary Education: GED and Homeschool Applicants

In accordance with Senate Bill 1543 (SB1543), applicants for admission who present evidence of completion of a nontraditional secondary education without an official class rank will have a class rank assigned by Texas State. The class rank will be comparable to the average class rank of other applicants who have equivalent ACT or SAT scores. A nontraditional secondary education includes Homeschool and GED graduates. Texas State requires an official homeschool or GED transcript to demonstrate evidence of completion.
