The grid below reflects Texas State's admission standards for freshman applicants. Candidates must demonstrate eligibility by means of high school rank in class, ACT or SAT scores, the admission essay, and extra-curricular involvement. Applicants who meet the standards below and send all materials in by the assigned deadline are automatically admitted.
| Automatic Admission Standards | |||||||||
| Class Rank | SAT I * | or | ACT | ||||||
| Top 10% | Required but no minimum | ||||||||
| First Quarter | 920 | or | 20 | ||||||
| Second Quarter | 1010 | or | 22 | ||||||
| Third Quarter | 1180 | or | 26 | ||||||
| Fourth Quarter | 1270 | or | 29 | ||||||
* SAT scores are a combination of Critical Reasoning and Math sections only. Writing Section is required of all applicants but will not factor into admission decision. Graduates of non-accredited programs, as well as GED and home-schooled applicants, must have a minimum ACT of 26 or SAT of 1180.
Freshmen who rank in the top three quarters of their class and whose high school rank and test scores place them near the assured admission requirement, may be eligible for an individual Predicted Academic Success (PAS) review. A limited number of students whose academic record demonstrates potential for academic success at Texas State University-San Marcos will be offered admission. Spaces are typically allotted by mid-March.
