Great news: Texas State was named a Best Western College for 2008 by the Princeton Review. Also, for the third consecutive year, Texas State was ranked in the top tier of master's universities in the Western Region according to the U.S. News and World Report.

Admission Requirements: We require the writing assessment section of the SAT I or ACT. Please encourage your students to take that option when they test. This is currently required but does not factor into the admission decision. Our admission standards are stated in terms of the combined score for the Critical Reasoning and Math sections of the SAT test. Good scores on these tests also help students receive various scholarships. For information on freshman scholarships, please click here.

University Application Deadline: May 1, 2009 is our “postmarked by” deadline for Fall freshman applicants. Please encourage students to apply in fall or early spring. During the past several years we have experienced high application volume and have needed to use both a wait list as well as a defer-to-spring option for numerous students.

Predicted Academic Success (PAS): PAS continues to be an alternative admissions process for freshman applicants who rank in the top three-quarters of their class and whose high school class rank and test scores place them near the general admission requirements. In years past, the limited spaces were filled by the end of March with only 27% of the review group offered PAS admission. We anticipate Fall 2009 to be as competitive for these spaces. In addition to the basic application procedures, students who wish to be considered under this option must submit their 7th semester transcript with updated class rank to our office—the earlier, the better. Encourage your students to thoroughly complete Part II of the ApplyTexas application as well as submit an essay on one of the listed topics that allows readers to gain insight of the student not reflected on their transcript or test scores.

Application Fee: The non-refundable application fee is $60.00.  Remember that waivers are possible—students should submit copies of an approved SAT or ACT fee waiver or a letter from the high school principal or counselor verifying eligibility for a federally funded need-based aid program (i.e. free or reduced lunch program).

Electronic Application: Encourage students to use the electronic ApplyTexas application. As that loads directly to our system, the time needed to process their application is shortened. Over 90% of our applications arrive electronically.

Bobcat Days: We have four Saturdays scheduled for students and families to visit our campus: October 11, 2008, November 15, 2008, February 21, 2009, and April 18, 2009. The programs include admissions and residence life overviews, opportunities to talk with faculty in the academic departments and staff in student affairs offices, find out about financial aid, multicultural student affairs or transfer credit. Campus tours and departmental open houses round out the schedule. Reservations are not required.

Email:  Periodically throughout the year we’ll be sending email reminders of deadlines and short updates on Texas State.  If you would like to receive these messages, please click here and then choose your region to go to your contact and request updates.

If you're unable to locate the information you need, please contact J. Carlos Laird, Associate Director of Admission at JL20@txstate.edu or 512-245-2340.
