Getting Accepted: Transfers with 1-29 Hours

Transfer Admission Standards

If you have completed transferable credit hours and have been out of high school for at least one semester (not including summer), but have not yet finished 30 credit hours, you are considered a transfer student (1-29 hours) for admission purposes. Test credits (AP, IB, CLEP) are not considered for transfer admission purposes.

Students who have earned 1-29 hours of transferable credit hours must meet the below criteria to be admitted to Texas State.

Transferable credit must be completed before the deadline for the semester to which you are applying.

Students with 1-29 credit hours will be considered for admission on the basis of their high school academic record, test scores and overall GPA in transferable credits completed.

Students must be eligible to return to all previous institutions (i.e. free of suspension, dismissal, or enforced withdrawal) regardless of GPA or degrees received.

Admission Standards for Freshman and Transfer Students (1-29 hours)

The chart below reflects Texas State's admission standards for freshman and transfer (1-29 hours) applicants. Candidates must demonstrate eligibility by means of high school rank in class, ACT or SAT scores, the admission essay, and extra-curricular involvement.

Applicants who meet the standards below and send all required materials in by the assigned deadline are automatically admitted.

Students who have 1-29 hours but have been out of high school for over three years may substitute a current resume in place of high school extracurricular activities and are not required to submit ACT or SAT scores.

Transfer students considering any degree program in the McCoy College of Business should click here to view additional admission requirements.

Also, there are some majors that require you to start as a "pre-major" until you have met specific program entry requirements to be admitted to that major.
