Texas State Application Procedures


The university provides general admission programs for first-time freshmen, transfers students with 1-29 transferable semester hours, and transfer students with 30 or more transferable semester hours. The admission standards are designed to ensure that admitted students are prepared to meet the academic challenges of the classroom at Texas State.


Freshmen


Application Requirements


In order to apply all freshmen must submit the following:

  • ApplyTexas application (Parts I & II)
  • One essay topic (select ONE from topic A, B or C)
  • Official high school transcript with class rank
  • SAT/ACT scores (sent directly from testing agency)
  • Non-refundable Application Fee: $60 (check, money order,Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover)

 *Writing Section of ACT/SAT required, but will not be included in the scores used in initial review by Texas State. No minimum scores required for students who rank in the top 10% of their graduating class. ACT or SAT scores, however, must be submitted.

*All students must have successfully completed one of these plans in their high school studies.


Freshmen who rank in the top three-quarters of their class, and whose high school rank and test scores place them near the general admission requirements, are eligible for an individual Predicted Academic Success review. A limited number of students whose academic record demonstrates potential for academic success at Texas State will be offered admission.


Limited Access Programs


McCoy College of Business Administration

Consideration for admission to McCoy College is a rolling admission process in which applications are reviewed in chronological order according to the date they were completed.  To pursue a bachelors of business administration degree, you must meet the admission requirements of the McCoy College and receive assured admission to Texas State.


Freshmen and Transfers 1-29 hours

Students with fewer than 30 semester hours will be automatically admitted if they:

  • receive assured admission to Texas State
  • select a first choice major in the McCoy College
  • achieve one of the following: an SAT score of 1200 or higher, an ACT score of 27 or higher, or a ranking in the  top 25 percent of their high school graduating class

Other applicants who have received admission to Texas State will be considered through a competitive review process that is based on high school academic record and SAT or ACT score, or a combination of the two.


Transfers with 30+ hours

To be considered for admission, students with 30 or more semester hours must have completed English 1310, English 1320 and Math 1329 (or their equivalents).
These students will be automatically admitted if they:

  •  receive assured admission to Texas State
  •  select a first choice major in the McCoy College
  •  have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher

Applicants with 30 or more semester hours whose overall GPA is below 3.0 will be considered for admission based on a competitive review process using the grades they earned in English 1310, English 1320 and Math 1329 (or their equivalents) and overall GPA from all colleges and universities attended.


Application Priority Dates

It is the recommended that potential students submit their complete application by the priority date.  Applications received after the priority date will be considered for admission on a space-available basis.

March 1 — Summer and Fall Admission
October 15 — Spring Admission

Department of Communication Design

To pursue a communication design major, you must meet the admission requirements of the Department of Communication Design and receive assured admission to Texas State.


Freshman and Transfers 1-29 hours

Students with fewer than 30 semester hours will be automatically admitted if they:

  • receive assured admission to Texas State
  • select a first choice major of Communication Design
  • achieve one of the following: an SAT score of 1200 or higher, an ACT score of 27 or higher, or a ranking in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class

Other applicants who have received admission to Texas State will be considered for any remaining openings through a competitive review process that is based on high school academic record and SAT or ACT score, or a combination of the two.


Transfers with 30+ hours

To be considered for admission, students with 30 or more semester hours must have completed ART-F 1301 and ART-F 1302 (or their equivalents).
These students will be automatically admitted if they:

  • receive assured admission to Texas State
  • select a first choice major is Communication Design
  • have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher

Applicants with 30 or more semester hours whose overall GPA is below 3.0 will be considered for admission based on a competitive review process using overall GPA from all colleges and universities attended.

* Students seeking admission under "other" admission categories, (GED, home school, special student, transient admission, etc.) will be held to slightly different criteria. See below to learn more.


Home-Schooled Students


Application Requirements for Home-Schooled Students:

  • ApplyTexas application (Parts I & II)
  • One essay topic (select ONE from topic A, B or C)
  • Official high school transcript with class rank (if applicable)
  • Must submit ACT or SAT scores of 26 or 1180 respectively either; test scores may be sent directly from testing agency
  • Non-refundable Application Fee: $60 (check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express)
  • Completion of the Texas Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Graduation Plan

Graduates of non-accredited programs and GED recipients must have a minimum ACT of 26 or SAT of 1180 (Reading + Math)


Transfer Students: 1-29 Hours

All hours must be transferable.


In order to apply you must submit the following:

  • ApplyTexas application for Transfers (Parts I)
  • One essay topic.  Select ONE from topic A, B or C.  We recommend topic C.
  • Final official high school transcript with class rank
  • Transcripts from all colleges attended
  • SAT and/or ACT scores (sent directly from testing agency)
  • A resume appropriate to your situation.  Provide either a resume of your high school activities, awards and employment, or a traditional professional resume.
  • Non-refundable Application Fee: $60 (check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express)

Must meet the freshman admission requirements as listed above. Must have a 2.0 grade point average or greater in all previous college work that is transferable to Texas State.


Transfer Students: 30+ Hours

All hours must be transferable.


In order to apply you must submit the following:

  • ApplyTexas application (Part I)
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (must have a 2.25 grade point average or greater in all  previous college work that is transferable to Texas State)
  • Non-refundable Application Fee: $60 (check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express)

Former Texas State Students


Former Texas State students who have not been enrolled for 12 consecutive months or longer must reapply. Please submit the following:

  • ApplyTexas application (Part I)
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended since last enrolling at Texas State
  • Must have a 2.25 grade point average or higher (if you have taken 30 hours or more of transferable course work)
  • Must be eligible to return to all previous institutions you have attended since last enrolling at Texas State
  • Non-refundable Application Fee: $25 (check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express)

Transient Students


Summer Sessions ONLY: For students with previous college level work.

Please submit the following:

  • ApplyTexas application (Part I)
  • Statement of Good Standing or current official transcript indicating good standing from current institution
  • Non-refundable Application Fee: $60 (check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express)

International Freshmen


Please submit the following:

  • ApplyTexas application for International Students (Parts I & II)
  • Official high school transcript
  • Certified English translation of course work if it is not in English
  • Proof of English Proficiency
  • Affidavit of Financial Support including both a bank statement and a sponsor's statement
  • Non-refundable Application Fee: $75 (check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express)

International Transfers: 30+ Hours

All hours must be transferable.


Please submit the following:

  • ApplyTexas application for International Students (Parts I & II)
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (must have a 2.25 grade point average or greater in all previous college work)
  • Certified English translation of course work if it is not in English
  • Proof of English Proficiency
  • Affidavit of Financial Support including both a bank statement and a sponsor's statement
  • An advisor's form if transferring from a US college
  • Non-refundable Application Fee: $75 (check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express)

DEADLINES - Scholarship & Financial Aid: The fall semester Admission deadline for scholarship consideration is DECEMBER 15 for freshmen, MARCH 1 for transfers; the financial aid priority deadline for the fall is March 31.
