Student Specialist: Transfer Admissions and Career Counseling at the Round Rock Higher Education Center (RRHEC)

Hometown:  Hugo, Oklahoma
Alma Mater:  Texas A&M University-Commerce (Rooaarrr…GO LIONS!!!)
Majors/Degrees:  Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Master of Science in Professional Counseling (Student Affairs emphasis)

What advice do you have for future students?
If you are interested in completing your Bachelors degree in the evenings and/or weekends at the Round Rock Higher Education Center you will need to learn to balance your family and employment obligations with your academic pursuits. Please seek out assistance when needed for academic, social, and/or personal concerns as soon as they arise. Seek out the resources…we are here for you!!!

Why did you choose to become an admission counselor?
I chose to become an admission counselor because I probably would not have ever transferred from Paris Junior College (PJC) to A&M-Commerce if it had not been for a transfer counselor visiting my community college and explaining the process to transfer. I want to help each student to reach his/her academic goals in the least stressful path possible. Please email me if you have any questions about transferring to Texas State and you plan to take your classes at the Round Rock Center.

How would you describe the atmosphere of Texas State?
Very friendly and helpful! I grew up in the country outside a small town in Oklahoma and I was very overwhelmed by larger universities. I believe any student who enjoys smaller environments and the outdoors will feel very comfortable at Texas State! I really miss the trees, the river, and the peaceful atmosphere of the main campus. I love it there; it reminds me of our ranch in Oklahoma!
