What Is Computer Science?

Computer scientists work on problems and develop creative solutions. They apply critical thinking to meet the needs of a wide variety of users. In the Department of Computer Science, you’ll study programming languages, software engineering, security, data structures and algorithms, human-computer interactions, machine learning, and much more.

You’ll have hands-on learning experiences in and outside the classroom through research opportunities, internships, and active student branches of organizations such as the Society of Women Engineers and IEEE.

B.S. Computer Science

"The first time that I was introduced to coding and the problem-solving approach in writing an algorithm, I enjoyed it so much that I knew I wanted to change my major. There is a real camaraderie among the students. It doesn't feel like a competition in class; everyone is in this together and is willing to help each other when they can."
