Freshman NSO

At Texas State, we are excited to welcome over 9,000 new Bobcats each year at New Student Orientation (NSO)!

All incoming freshmen are required to attend an on-campus New Student Orientation (NSO) program that concludes with academic advising and class registration.

Additional information about the programs and activities is provided below.

What to Expect

In addition to the required on-campus program, New Student Orientation (NSO) includes of a series of resources provided on Canvas (Texas State's Learning Management System) designed to prepare incoming freshmen for the on-campus NSO program and to be successful students at Texas State. To gain access to Canvas, students must sign up for NSO and have an activated NetID and password.

Families and Guests

Family members of students signed up for NSO are invited to participate in our Family and Guest NSO programs.

Freshman Orientation sessions are for students who 1) are graduating from high school and will start at Texas State the semester after graduation, or 2) have graduated from high school and have not taken any college level courses.

  • SPRING 2022 NSO SIGN-UP IS NOW OPEN!

    All freshmen are required to attend a 1-Day On-Campus Program on January 11, 2022.


    All holds must be cleared before you attend the on-campus program and finish the registration process. Please allow up to 3 business days for processing and removal of holds.

    FRESHMAN NSO FEE = $95

    Freshman completing NSO for Spring 2022 must pay a $35 fee at sign-up and should expect a charge of $60 added to their tuition bill.

    The fee for guests is $10 per person and is due at sign-up.
