The Office of Undergraduate Admissions charges a nonrefundable application fee of $75. If you have submitted your application through the ApplyTexas website without paying this fee, you may pay the application fee using the link below.
Fee Waiver Requests
Texas State is committed to providing fee waivers to students with demonstrated need. Approximately 30 percent of applicants receive a fee waiver. In 2018, Texas State granted over $600,000 in freshman fee waivers. The program is designed to cover the cost of applying for admission to Texas State’s undergraduate programs. International applicants and applicants seeking a second bachelor's degree cannot qualify for the fee waiver option and are required to pay the application fee.
Application fee waivers are subject to the approval of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and are granted based on evidence of financial need. To qualify, you must be a United States citizen, permanent resident or a student identified under Senate Bill 1528 and demonstrate that paying the application fee causes a serious financial hardship.
|NOTE: In response to the current COVID-19 crisis, we have expanded the qualifications and documentation required for application fee waivers, as noted below. For additional updates related to COVID-19, visit our FAQ page.|
You may demonstrate that you qualify for an application fee waiver through one of the following options:
1. FAFSA or TAFSA
You may qualify for an application fee waiver if your Student Aid Report (SAR) indicates an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 5,000 or less. To obtain your SAR, please complete and submit the FAFSA or TASFA. Once an EFC is established, you will gain access to your SAR. If your SAR states your EFC is 5,000 or less, please email that document to firstname.lastname@example.org. Both the FAFSA and TASFA are available in October each year for the following academic year.
2. Income Tax Form
For Summer 2020, submit a copy of page 1 of a 2016 Income Tax form that reflects your total family income at or below the federal economic index for free/reduced lunch eligibility requirements.
For Fall 2020, submit a copy of page 1 of a 2017 Income Tax form that reflects your total family income at or below the federal economic index for free/reduced lunch eligibility requirements.
3. Fee Waiver Request Form
If you are unable to submit one of the items above, you may complete and submit the Special Circumstance Form for consideration. [Loss of income due to COVID-19 may also be reported using this form.]
4. Additional Documents Now Being Accepted for Fall 2020
Fee waivers issued for ACT and/or SAT testing and documentation of free/reduced lunch eligibility will be accepted for Fall 2020 applicants.
All documents supporting an application fee waiver request should be submitted to our office via one of the following methods.
