Fee Waiver

Application Fee

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions charges a nonrefundable application fee of $75. If you have submitted your application through ApplyTexas or Coalition for College without paying this fee, you may pay the application fee using the button below.

Fee Waiver Requests

Texas State is committed to providing fee waivers to students with demonstrated need. The fee waiver program is designed to cover the cost of applying for admission to Texas State’s undergraduate programs. Approximately 30% of applicants receive a fee waiver. In 2020, Texas State granted over $750,000 in fee waivers for applicants.

Application fee waivers are subject to the approval of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and are granted based on evidence of financial need. To qualify, you must be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or a student identified under Senate Bill 1528, and demonstrate that paying the application fee causes a serious financial hardship. International applicants, non-degree seeking students, and applicants seeking a second bachelor's degree cannot qualify for the fee waiver option and are required to pay the application fee.

Students who qualify for the application fee waiver also qualify to have their housing prepayment deferred by the Department of Housing and Residential Life.

Qualifying Documents

NOTE: In response to the current COVID-19 crisis, we have expanded the qualifications and documentation required for application fee waivers, as noted below. For additional updates related to COVID-19, visit our FAQ page.

You may demonstrate that you qualify for an application fee waiver through one of the following options:

1. FAFSA

You may qualify for an application fee waiver if your Student Aid Report (SAR) indicates an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 5,000 or less. To obtain a fee waiver using this method, submit the FAFSA. Be sure that Texas State is listed as a receiving institution on the application so we receive the necessary information to approve your request automatically. The FAFSA is available in October each year for the following academic year.
(Students not eligible to submit the FAFSA may use one of the options provided below.)

2. SAT, ACT, and NACAC Fee Waivers

Fee waivers issued for ACT and/or SAT testing, NACAC fee waivers, and documentation of free/reduced lunch eligibility will be accepted for all 2022 applicants. These documents must be filled out completely with the student information, counselor information, and hand-written signatures.

3. Fee Waiver Request Form

If you are unable to submit one of the items above, you may complete and submit the Special Circumstance Form for consideration. (Loss of income due to COVID-19 may also be reported using this form.)

Submitting Documents

Before submitting fee waiver documentation, you must first submit an application for admission and activate your NetID. All documents supporting an application fee waiver request must be submitted to our office through our Document Uploader (NetID required).
