The Texas State Family Association has been dedicated to helping Bobcat families remain connected to their student’s university experience since 1976. The Association seeks to promote and sponsor programs that meet the needs of families as well as involve them in the life of the membership and university community alike. Family and Guest NSO
Welcome to the New Student Orientation! Family plays an integral role in a student's transition to Texas State. At Family and Guest Orientation, you will hear presentations from our faculty and staff introducing programs, student services and tips on how to stay involved and support your student.
New Student Orientation is designed to help your student navigate campus, connect with resources on campus, learn about important policies and start to feel what it is like to be a Bobcat. During Family and Guest Orientation, we provide concurrent programming with information about how you can support your new Bobcat. There will be times when you and your student attend the same presentations. There are also times when you and your student will be participating in different activities, an opportunity for your student to meet new Bobcats — and for you to network with Texas State representatives and with other new Bobcat families.
To view a tentative schedule, visit our Expectations & Schedules webpage.
We highly recommend that you sign up for your Family and Guest Orientation before you arrive on campus. Have your student sign back in to their orientation account to add any additional guests under the guest tab.
If you plan to sign up on campus, please be prepared to pay the Family and Guest Orientation fee with a credit card, check or money order. Cash will not be accepted.
Family and Guest Orientation Fees
Two-day Orientation - $50/guest
One-day Orientation - $30/guest
Pathway Orientation - $50/guest
The fee covers materials, some meals, staffing and other administrative costs. The fee is non-refundable after the orientation session.
Fee does not include overnight accommodations.
Overnight accommodations are not included in the Family and Guest orientation fee. If you would like to reserve on-campus overnight accommodations for yourself and/or your family (student overnight accommodations are included in their fee), you may do so online. If you choose to stay on-campus for overnight accommodations, you will need to supply your own toiletries and linens for your stay in San Jacinto Hall. Please note that the building you are staying in and the one your student will be staying in are not in the same area of campus. Overnight guest accommodations are not included with the $50 family orientation fee and are an additional charge of $35 per guest.
You can also reserve lodging at any of the area hotels. A list of hotels in the area is available on the San Marcos Convention and Visitor Bureau website.
Two weeks before your orientation session, a confirmation packet will be sent to your student's mailing address. This packet will contain a parking permit that is specific to the student's orientation date with driving directions to Matthews Street Garage.
Texas State requires that all vehicles on campus have a valid Texas State parking permit on them at all times. Your New Student Orientation parking permit allows you to park in any spot that is not Red or Reserved. Students and families must also abide by general parking laws regarding parking in a fire zone or handicap accessible spaces.
If you do not receive your parking permit in the mail or would like to request extras, please e-mail us at email@example.com or visit the Orientation Information Desk in the LBJ Student Center or request one during the check in process.
